There are many industries where large quantities of economically heated hot water are required on a regular basis.

Great savings can be realised by using free solar energy systems in the commercial and industrial fields. This poses an interesting question - why are we not seeing many commercial and industrial installations of large solar heating arrays?

There are several reasons for this, ranging from a relatively poor year-round efficiency of conventional flat panel solar collectors to a relatively high heating fluid pressure drop across the U-tube type solar collectors at large fluid flow rates associated with heating large water volumes. However, by far the fatal and most decisive shortcoming of ALL alternative collector types, when used in large-scale heating arrays required in commercial / industrial use is the instance of even a small leakage, or of a tube breakage in an all-glass type or U-tube type solar collector, the entire array will drop out of service. As the solar absorbing area in a commercial array is large, typically from about 100 m2 to as much as several 1000 m2, the likelihood of such a defect is relatively high. Identifying the fault location could be difficult on a large array. To carry out the necessary repair on an alternative solar array, the entire array has to be drained and taken out of service while being repaired. The faulty section has to be disconnected from the array and any fluid leakage rectified. Additionally, special precautions are necessary to avoid system overheating while the fluid circulation has been interrupted for the purpose of repair.

On restarting, the system has to be re-charged and air-vented. Only then can the array be put back in operation. The entire conventional type solar array will be totally out of service while being repaired.

GreenLand Systems solar collectors using Heat Pipe and Dry Heat Interface (DHI) fundamentally and completely solve all the above problems. GreenLand Systems solar vacuum tubes supply heat to the heated fluid by the (DHI), allowing the collector array to continue operating normally while maintenance work such as tube replacement is performed. GreenLand Systems vacuum tube replacement can be accomplished while the entire heating system remains in full operation. Changing a GreenLand Systems solar vacuum tube is about as easy as changing a light globe.

The ability of GreenLand Systems solar collectors to remain in full operation while performing maintenance of the collector is very necessary on large systems in Commercial and Industrial applications.
