Modern cruise ships, container ships, super yachts and marine craft are equipped with the most advanced technical systems. This also applies to FPSO vessels (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) for loading oil and natural gas and luxury super yachts.
Everything is present on these ships to make the stay on board as comfortable as possible, from installations for climate control to large cooling systems for food storage. Strict requirements are imposed on technical insulation material for mechanical installations on board. In addition to the material needing to comply with environmental laws and regulations, fire safety is also an important factor. After all, a fire at sea is a huge danger for both passengers and crew.
The IMO (International Maritime Organisation) has therefore drawn up its own fire safety standards. These standards apply worldwide and include determining smoke density and smoke gas toxicity. Before insulation material can be used, it must first meet all of the IMO test criteria. Maritime insurance companies such as Lloyds Register, the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and Veritas use these IMO test results and, based on this, issue product approvals, which enable insulation materials to be used on large ships and other sea vessels.
The lightweight Aeroflex insulation material for shipping and offshore installations has excellent insulating properties and in the event of fire has a low smoke development and a low toxicity and corrosiveness of the combustion gases.
Aeroflex has almost all certificates required for the maritime industry. Sustainability is also of great importance in this industry, because Aeroflex makes the most suitable material on an EPDM basis.

AEROFLEX standard is an EPDM based closed cell light weight elastomeric thermal insulation specially formulated to meet UL 94 V-0, ASTM E 84, Class 5.3 EMPA (Switzerland), IMO (International Marine Organization) and other international fire standards.
Aeroflex standard sheet and tube elastomeric thermal insulation are widely used to save energy and prevent condensation problem on chilled water and refrigeration systems. They also efficiently reduce heat flow on hot water. AEROFLEX – Standard is self-extinguished and does not melt when burnt.

FOR HIGH TEMPERATURE APPLICATON UP TO +150 ºC
AEROFLEX-HT is an EPDM based closed cell light weight elastomeric thermal insulation specifically designed for solar and steam heating applications with service temperature up to +150 ˚C. AEROFLEX-HT has excellent ozone, UV and weather resistance properties suitable for outdoor applications. However, for outdoor installation with long term direct contact to sunlight, protective coating or jacketing are recommended. The flexibility of AEROFLEX – HT enables quick and easy installation on bent or irregular piping. AEROFLEX – HT is self-extinguished and does not melt when burnt.

AEROFLEX-HF
HALOGEN FREE THERMAL INSULATION
AEROFLEX-HF is halogen-free elastomeric thermal insulation especially developed for high standard with requirement of very low halogen content and very low corrosive acid gases from combustion. AEROFLEX-HF is formulated with very low chlorine and bromine content. AEROFLEX-HF is used for heating and cooling piping, tanks and air ducts, and to prevent stress corrosion with stainless steel pipe in the electronic control room, computer center, hospitals, laboratory, ships, trains and other areas where non-halogenated chemical materials are required.

AEROFLEX-EP
FM APPROVED
AEROFLEX-EP is an EPDM based closed cell elastomeric thermal insulation specially formulated to meet Factory Mutual Approvals. FM has approved AEROFLEX-EP that it will not contribute significant fire according to FM fire test methods: UBC 26-3 Room Fire Test and Factory Mutual Approvals Full Scale Horizontal Simulated Pipe Chase Test. AEROFLEX-EP elastomeric thermal insulation tube and sheet are used to save energy and prevent condensation on chilled water and refrigeration system. They also efficiently reduce heat flow on hot water plumbing, liquid heating and dual-temperature piping.

AEROFLEX PRE-CUT SHEET INSULATION (P-SERIES)
The pre-cut sheets are ready-cut in size to suit large pipe size ranging from 50mm IPS upwards (6mm to 25mm wall thickness are available in 910mm wide x 1200mm length). The pre-cut series makes fabrication easier and more economical because wastage is minimized. Moreover, Aeroflex precut sheet is manufactured to nominal thickness with smooth and dense skins on both surfaces.

Aeroflex sheet insulations are also available in continuous roll form. Aeroflex continuous sheet rolls are available from (3mm) to (50mm) thickness and 1,000 mm width. All insulating sheet are made from the same materials as Aeroflex tubing.
